My Lessons

Private Lessons

The most efficient way to learn a language is to have private lessons. These are tailored to suit your individual needs and learning style, and I can work with you on your personal goals. Learning English in this way is intense, but you will see big improvements with your hard work and my support. All my lessons are available as private lessons.

Group Lessons

Learning in a small group is less efficient than having private lessons but it does give you advantages such as practising with others, sharing ideas, splitting the cost and meeting new people. I limit the group sizes to 4 people online, 8 if it's a face to face lesson. I will ensure that everyone has the opportunity to contribute equally (that no one dominates or stays silent).  Please contact me if you are interested in group lessons.

What does a typical lesson consist of?

The lessons are tailored to suit you, and I can be flexible with the style and teaching method.

However, the usual format is:

- 10-15 mins - lesson aims and warm up activity (consists of talking about your week, or recent events in the news. I have found that many students aren't confident in making small talk in a foreign language, yet this is a key way to start a conversation with others).

- 10-15 mins - review of the previous lesson (a chance for you to ask questions about your homework, and to consolidate what we learnt in previous lessons).

- 30-50 mins - new topic or follow on from previous lesson (a chance to learn new skills and focus on a different point of the language).

- 5-10 mins - conclusion (an opportunity to ask any final questions, review the aims of the lessons, discuss plans for the next lesson).

In each lesson, I will correct any mistakes you might make, and encourage you to correct yourself. If there are not many mistakes, I will encourage you to use different expressions, and teach you new ones to incorporate when communicating in English. Don't worry, I won't judge you, and I will only laugh if you know why it's funny!

Please click on the type of lesson you're interested in to find out more:
  • How do I book lessons?
There are two ways to do this. We can spend 5 minutes after the lesson choosing a suitable day/time for the next lesson. You can book yourself in using my online booking schedule.
  • Can I book a lesson less than 24 hours beforehand?
No, it's better to book with more notice than this to allow me to manage my schedule well. However, please email me and if I have availability, I will do my best to fit you in on the same day.
  • Can I cancel a lesson?
Yes. Please let me know before 8.30am (UK time) of the day you want to cancel. If you do not let me know, you will be charged for the lesson.
  • What is your free consultation?
Before you start lessons with me, I need to know what your level of English is and what your goals are. If you want online lessons, it will also allow me to check our connection. I will do this online with you, for 15 minutes. This is free.

  • How do online lessons work?
We will use Google Meet (I will help you set this up if you're not familiar with it). I will send you an invite, and you just need to click on that invite and meet me online. I may share my screen with you during lessons. Please take notes yourself during the online lessons, as this helps you learn. I will also upload notes and resources on a shared Google Drive folder after the lesson. If you want to print anything before the lesson, please let me know 24 hours in advance so I can send you the notes/resources.
  • How do face to face lessons work?
I will meet you in either a coffee shop, or an office space (Central or North London). If you want to meet elsewhere, please contact me. We will use resources that I have prepared, or we can use your own resources if you prefer. I will charge a little bit extra for face to face lessons to cover my travel expenses - this is already calculated in the cost when you select 'face to face' on the booking page.
  • Do you use a camera in online lessons?
Yes. We will both use cameras. I believe lessons are better when we can see each other. If this is a problem for you, please let me know.
  • How do I access the lesson materials after a class?
I will create a shared Google Drive folder. There, I will save all your lesson materials. This means you can access all of your documents online.
  • What do I do if I’m late?
I will wait for 15 minutes. If you are still not there, and have not contacted me, I will cancel the lesson but you will still be charged for the whole lesson. Lessons will start and finish at the agreed times, even if you are late. This is because I have a busy diary, and if we finish late, other students will start late, which is not fair.
  • How can I pay for lessons?
There are 2 ways to pay: Pay with your credit or debit card Pay with your Paypal account To buy lessons, go to the 'Book a lesson' page. Click on the type of lesson (face to face or online) that you want, then choose the lesson package you want to buy.
  • Can I get a refund?
No. You can re-arrange lessons but I can not issue refunds, sorry. If you cancel after 8.30am (UK time) of the day of your lesson, you will be charged for the lesson.
